The History of Modern Poured Walls and MPW Construction Services

Founded in 1976

More than 40 years ago Scott Smith, Jake Smith and Larry Rader made the decision to quit their jobs with a poured wall contractor in Bath, Ohio and start their own concrete poured wall company in Penfield Township. Modern Poured Walls, Inc. was formed with the three partners, five employees and the equipment necessary to construct high-quality poured wall basements. During its initial year of business, Modern Poured Walls was hired to pour 150 basements.

In the last thirty years many things have changed in the construction industry from techniques and products, to the contractors performing the work. One constant in the Northern Ohio area has been the professional service and guaranteed quality workmanship Modern Poured Walls has been delivering.

That is not to say that we have not changed. We have undergone many transformations as industry needs and visions dictate. Excavating services, Concrete Flatwork, Waterproofing, and Commercial construction services have all been added to our areas of expertise. In fact, in the last 10 years, we began doing business as MPW Construction Services, Inc. to let people know that we are MORE THAN JUST A POURED WALL COMPANY.

Today MPW Construction Services, Inc., employs a staff of more than 110 employees. Our ability to deliver first-class service to our customers is achieved through the use of our greatest resource – our employees. Hardworking, detailed-oriented production staff, knowledgeable, courteous account representatives and excellent office staff put us above the competition. We have built solid working relationships with top builders across the Northern Ohio area. We travel to construction sites from East of Concord to Marblehead, and from Lake Erie to Mansfield.

MPW is a leader in both residential and commercial construction. Residential construction used to represent about 75 percent of the company’s volume. Today, our commercial department is growing at an accelerated rate, accounting for 40 percent of the company’s volume.
